Hey guys,
Just a fast question for all of or any of you technologically inclined Tombies here. This morning I turned my stereo on and was listening to it when all of the sudden the song cut out....the system when off and began making an internal rattling noise and then a "whiring" noise. After waiting a few seconds I turned it back on and tried to play a song but nothing would happen. Plus while the unit was on that 2nd time I smelled a burnt odour like something (i.e. a wire or circuit or the motor) was fried. I then shut it off quickly.
Does anyone know what happened to my stereo? Ive had it since Christmas of '04 and up until now it's given me no problems. It's a Sony MHC-GX450 by the way. Is the motor fried, are the speakers or sub blown? Do I need to get it repaired, or buy a new one, etc?

Gee thanks for all the technical suggestions and help.
I got it working though. Had to fiddle with the cord and plug it into another plug.

sounds like something was TRYING to fry if you smelled that certain burning circuit board smell...sounds like you lucked out big time if it's back to working order - also make sure to use air duster to get out all of the nasty dust buildup inside & out
