When I got into music I pretty much got into rap and metal at the same time, and listened to equal amounts of both for about 15 years. Only recently (2002-present) has metal started to emerge as my number one choice. When it comes to rap, which albums do you feel are worth mentioning? My top 3 are:

NWA: Straight Outta Compton
Dr Dre: 2001
Eminem: The Marshall Mathers LP

Out of over 15 years of listening to rap, these are the best 3 albums I've heard. What do you all think?

I'll agree to Straight Outta Compton kicking lots of ass for sure.

I have some rap albums, but mostly I don't like rap that much,.

But I can listen to the more popular hiphop stuff like Jay-Z and Ludacris sometimes, and when I was little Run DMC was very popular. I think straight outa compton is cool, and I know every word but its more cool because its outrageous and funny than cool because its good music. And 2-short "pimp the ho" / "don't fight the feeling" is terrifically funny too just cause I think its funny anyone can cuss that much.

Old school was cool with guys like KRS-One and The Juice Crew and all the old school guys now it's all become so materalistic and lost most of it's soul. That and it just goes over my head.

I used to listen to rap music when I was a kid. Groups like Run DMC and all those old school groups. Luckily I discovered metal and grew out of crap rap and now just the sound of a rappers voice really pisses me off. Especially gangster rappers and women rappers. They sound so god damn horrible and stupid.

Mc Lyte wasnt that bad she was a woman rapper and she did preaty good. But yeah i heard this one song by The Big Tymers becuse this guy used to ride my bus alaways played it and the song was the guy was rapping about how cool it would be to have a cool car adn proceeds to rap about the car and it's many features that still ticks me off to no end though.

Yeah when it comes to lyrical content, metal shits all over rap. Rap with meaningful lyrics usually just sounds gay. Except a few old Public Enemy tunes and Run DMC.

The only time I'll play rap these days is if mates come over and wanna hear some. Or if I've had heaps of beers and think it's a good idea.

I hate rap, I have no respect for it. It's slow, boring, unskilled (I don't consider talking fast and ryming a skill), canned, conceded, talentless cock-sucking shit!
I used to like some of it when I was young and just getting into music but I didn't listen to it for long, never bought a rap album, never started hating it with such passion untill I hit high school and had been put through alot of shit from its fans. Now I am at war with it. I'm older, bigger, more experienced and a lot tougher than I was in high school. Every wigger that gives me the eye I'll confront. Every pimped out cartoon driving low riders blaring bass with the windows rolled down I make fun of. Every faggot sporting a twisted ball cap I laugh at. I've become the very enemy it was to me in high school. 6 years of taking shit from the same crowd will get to you. Now I'm the intimidation factor and they're the ones taking shit from me. Call me an asshole but they made me what I am... mind polluting, worthless fucks!

Man you really dont like rap music do you. I just try to be respectfull becuse in the sense that it came from nothing it is a lot like metal in that respect.

It's rare that I ever meet anyone that hates it as much as I do. But when I do there is little I like more than to have a good ol anti-hip hop conversation. I'm surprise not many of you hate it like I do... I can't be the only one who's endured 6 years of mental and physical abuse, sexual harassment ect. by the hip-hop crowd! Theres gotta be others around here. I'm basicaly one of those kids who would have snapped and shot all his enemy school mates but I guess it just takes more for me to crack under pressure.

Well the main thing i hate is that you have all these guys rapping about how hard it is in the gehtto and they live in some multi million dollar house and they brag about there crimnal record like that is something to be proud of. Of course i am mostlly talking about gangster rapers. A lot of the postive rappers just preach at you and allow the message to overpower the music wich isnt that great to begin with. What are your main gripes with the music Slayer becuse i know the sub-culture bugs you.

i like some hip-hop and rap. i dont like that hardcore rap shit though, i listen to just about everything now

Before I started listening to metal, I only listened to rap, but back then I never really listened to music. I listen to it rarely, but as always I hate fake rappers that all sound the same and rap about da club, fine ass hos, and gettin money.
