Do you write the lyrics first then the music? Or do you write the music and then the lyrics?

when i used to do the band thing back in the day.i only sang.....i wrote boat lods of shit....and would determine what lyrics might go good with what music they came up with..... we were never "serious" we messed arround for a few yrs with it as more a time passer kinda thing.....but everyone has a style or way of doin things i suppose......but i never wrote anything for a specific pce of music...lyric wise..
Mutilated1
I only write the music. I never write the lyrics at all.

same as Mutilated1, but if i were to write lyrics i would probably write the music then the lyrics so you can write a pattern based off of the music, but thats just me
Souless

I actually make up lyrics all the time, like when I'm just walking around the house and I'll make up song lyrics. But not real lyrics though, just joke stuff about farts and burps... laugh.gif

lol.gif dude me too sometimes, and ill sing it in Jim Gillette style voice, or attempt to anyway, Power metal voice, hahahah its so funny cause i suck horrificly at it, my voice is the same as a fart with vibrato

both! Sometimes you might already have lyrics that will fit into the song and not need to write new ones.
But other times it is easier to make new lyrics. there is no rule either way is a good way.

I can only write lyrics then music, but that's probably because I'm only a vocalist right now, although I'm going to start playing bass soon, so maybe it will change for me, but for now I find it easier to write lyrics and get the rest of the band to make music for it.

I sometimes rap battle with my gangster friends at school, it's always funny becasue I hate rap music and I make fun of it so bad, and I rap about gutting gangsters and stuff although I'm not serious about it, it's just a joke, I'll never actually be a rapper, I'd die first.

Its easier to make songs with a band instead of for a band!
