i dont know...i just sorta like butchered because its fucking scary! he growls so fuckin good but in the bleeding theres like no growling...its all like pretty much yelling....i dont know.....the bleeding is awesome but butchered is my fav smile.gif
Mutilated1
OK fair enough. But how about the rest of the band ? Don't you think as a whole, the group sounds better on "The Bleeding" ?

Guest
Seeing as that's the VERY first album I bought from them, oddly enough for my time frame... that's a huge yes, and every positive reason brung to it I will almost completely agree with 99.9%.

i like Butchered more than the bleeding probably because it was one of the first real metal albums i ever bought and it freaked the shit outta me. for me Butchered is one of those albums i can sit down and listen to all the way through and never get tired and ive had it for a long time now and it still gets regular rotation. and its got some of my favorite CC songs on it too: Meat Hook Sodomy, Gutted, Living Dissection, Under The Rotted Flesh, Vomit The Soul, Rancid Amputation etc etc etc....

THE BLEEDING is the shit.
cant get any more catchy and brutal at the same time. fuckin classic riffs.
Mutilated1
Finally someone agrees with me! I was thinking everyone else liked "Butchered At Birth" the best. I just can't listen to "The Bleeding" enough lately. I've already listened to it four times this morning.

SHUT UP AND DIE
DUDE, THE BLEEDING IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST BARNES-ERA ALBUM. SORRY I HAVEN'T POSTED THIS YET TO BACK YA UP.....BUT I LOVE THAT ALBUM .SFU VOCALS WITH BETTER MUSICIANSHIP. -I- -I- -I-
Mutilated1
Yes the musicianship is great, but Barne's performance is truly stellar. It makes me regret some of the harsh things I've said about Barnes before, but I really think "The Bleeding" is the best I've heard from Chris in Cannibal or SFU.

SHUT UP AND DIE
THE WIERD THING ABOUT BARNES IS THAT REALLY, HIS VOICE IS A CONSTANT. IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW IT'S RECORDED/PRODUCED AS TO HOW IT COMES OUT. BECAUSE HE DID HIS THING WITH THE BLEEDING WHERE HE HIT HIGHS AND LOWS. THEN HE DID HAUNTED WITH SFU AND DID ALMOST ALL LOWS....AND GOOD CLEAR ONES AT THAT. FAST FORWARD TO WARPATH AND HE'S GOT THAT STRANGE, FUCKED UP INBETWEEN PITCH THING GOIN' ON. THEN DROPS IT DOWN AGAIN FOR MAXIMUM VIOLENCE.......AND THEN REALLY, REALLY DROPS IT DOWN FOR TRUE CARNAGE.......THEN BACK TO THE WARPATH SHIT WITH BRINGER OF BLOOD.......SOMEHOW HE'S DONE ALL OF THIS AFTER THE TOTAL INDECIPHARABILITY OF TOMB, BUTCHERED, AND EATEN. WIERD SHIT, MAN.
Nemesis
Ja ja, I will have to agree. Bleeding is a fucking classic, and you can't go wrong with classics!
Vaginal Blood Fart
You nailed it S.U.A.D. I agree also that its Barnes' best vocal performance. But I love it when hes really low like on Tomb and True Carnage. I think Bringer is the best SFU so far! I don't care what anybody else says, I love SFU!

bleeding is the worst barnes album if you ask me, the production sucks, everything just meshes together-the only thing that stands out is the guitars!

best barnes albums in order;

butchered
tomb
eaten
bleeding

Butchered at Birth was my fav. barnes album sickest lyrics in all of death metal lowest growls of his career and to have benton's demonic vocals on vomit the soul was badass best vocals i ever heard barnes low benton high. best vocal track i say is innard decay
Vampiria
I also think "butchered at birth" is the best album with chris barnes. the growls are very low and its just great!!! devil.gif

Dude, I love 'Vomit the Soul' when Glen's voice pops up...so fucking creepy.

On a similar note, I was listening to 'We Are the Children of the Underworld' by Deicide on my CD walkman and Glen growled like a rabid dog...but I thought it was a real ferocious animal behind me! I about shit my pants! laugh.gif

In any case, my favorite vocal performance by Barnes is probably 'The Bleeding' (song, not the album)...he hits so many highs and lows on that song. My favorite Benton cameo song is 'Mangled.'
SufferInTruth
Eaten back to life is my favourite Barnes CD, it was the original and I think his growls sound particularly brutal on it.

in my booklet it says guest vocals by glen benton on Mangled, but I only have the remastered one, you probably have the old one.

Yup, Glen shows up to do the backup vocals when they scream "MANGLED!"
Necromancer
First off this is a great question: allow me to try to give an indepth answer-

First things First, The bleeding is a killer album, its very hypnotic and has some of my all time favorite corpse songs, but at the same time the album has little depth.

while butchered at birth has tons of depth (and the most brutality not to mention the most technical drum and guitar work, and the vocals (as aforementioned))

So For best Barns album ill pick butchered at Birth,

bleeding has some really unique molments that no cannibal corpse fan should be without, like the tittle track and the sheer evilness of Stripped and pulverized...

but as much as i adore the bleeding, i must say Butchered takes it over the top that much more with such Deep lyrics, and a collective compleeteness the album provides, with a gut churning intro on Meat hook sodomy, to the vile groov of Gutted, and continuing to pound your skull with the Technical palm muting of Living Dissection, not to mention the ever evolving riffs in Under the rotted flesh, and the short burst of skull dammage that is Covered with Sores, to a climactic gore bloodbath on Vomit the Soul, as it winds down with the shorter yet brutal title track, and one of my favorite solos on Rancid Amputation, with the chilling shredding of Innards Decay

Take a closer look at butchered the songs feed off one another and flow into the next keeping the album dark and contiguoius

Bleeding while still technical lacks alot of the lyrical depth and alot of the synergy of a full album, you could take any track of the bleeding and play it in any order... while butchered you cant hear the first lines of Meat Hook Sodomy and not listen all the way through till your left with the last fade out of innards decay...

Anyway this is just my point of view

bleeding is prolly 3rd in my list of favorite barns albums

I think its Eaten Back To Life notworthy.gif smile.gif
moelll
well, after listening to all of the Barnes' era CC albums, i would have to say that The Bleeding is the best, it's the most developed musically of the four. although people say that production is crappy, i personally like the production, gives it a blunt feel to the album. and personally, i think it was Barnes best performace of all the albums (though i think Butchered is just as good)
Skull Bowl
They're all so good but all in all, by a VERY close margin, I like this one the best.
Strik9
This is how I rank the Barnes era albums:

1. Tomb Of The Mutilated
2. Butchered At Birth
3. The Bleeding
4. Eaten Back To Life

I just ranked the officially released lp's, so that's why no Hammer Smashed Face ep. You can't really compare ep's to lp's imo.

Absolutely not. I can put any album in and just be blown away from the pure fucking death metal. Not too many bands have released all good albums, but CC definitly did a fine ass job.

I do. The last and the best ( judging by the vocals ). Its a very good album, it shows that Barnes is an extremely good vocalist. In this album we can see a very "mature" Barnes with many strong points in his vocals. Not only a very good album but also a very important album.I like the first album the most but this is my second favorite( its the album that got me into Cannibal Corpse 5 years ago ).
The only thing i don't like about this album is that it's Chris's last album with Cannibal. so it's a little strange for me. mad.gif

VILE
i say either the bleeding... or ToTM.. hard choice idk. they both fuckin kick ass
Skull Bowl
Yes, the cover for The Bleeding is probably the worst of all CC albums, but the sound totally makes up for it. TOTM and BAB are amazing as well, and they rank right up there. Infact, those are probably my two favorites as far as covers, but BAB has by far the best at least in my opinion.

Yeah TOM takes the cake IMO
Deathklaat62
Butchered At Birth. But, Chris Barnes best release would definately be 13. I know most of you won't agree with me, but I think 13 is easily better than The Bleeding I really do enjoy his short growls starting of songs like Return To Flesh and the title track. Although, Up against tracks like The Art Of Headhunting and Deathklaat I feel The Bleeding falls short. The 2 Cannibal Corpse albums that really stand out to me, as albums I enjoy every track on, would be Tomb of The Mutilated and Butchered At Birth.

DeadbyDawn

I just joined the forums yesterday and I think I named 'The Bleeding' as my favourite CC record. That was a total, careless mistake cos 'Butchered at Birth' will always remain my all-time fave CC album for tons of reasons. 'Tomb.....' is a mighty close second, maybe only a tiny sliver separating it from 'Butchered...' on my card. I've always loved the Chris Barnes-era CC quite a lot more than what followed with George in the latter days. But overall, I reckon I admire and enjoy highly, every single CC album I own and hear to this day.

'The Bleeding' leaves me all mixed up and rather annoyed and underwhelmed. I sure love the overall outstanding musicianship. The out-for-blood intensity with the guitars and drums and Chris's mesmerising vocal presence all over the record. Yet, it still rankles with me how there's just an excessive, overkill of the 'groovy' vibe throughout the album. I don't have a quarrel with the band experimenting and changing direction for their fourth record, but there's just too much groove on 'Bleeding....' for my tastes and hence I'm always gonna be very hot-n-cold on this Barnes-era album. Besides, I wasn't too excited or ever won over by Barnes's decision to go the 'decipherable' route on this album, and I was really pissed with his overdoing the high-pitched shrieks on virtually every song. These make 'The Bleeding' a bit of a minor let-down for me personally, more so cos I truly revere Chris Barnes and the major role he played in making Cannibal Corpse such a formidable force and frontrunner in the amazing world of Brutal-death metal---music that I love above and beyond all else.
Rotting Decrepit Corpse
Well , good music is supposed to make you " feel something " . Scared , happy , sad , angry , in love whatever - its gotta have some sort of emotion .

The bleeding , just oozes it , its cannibal 's most pure complete , pissed off record to date . And their is nothing fake about it , Its intensely real , scary , gloomy . The
high pitched screams i love , it resembles chaos , fear , dying , torture - whatever -its all good . Lyrically - its the most amazing record as well.........
Necrosadistic
screams kick ass....

lyrics.....ditto..

@DeadByDawn - dude I totally understand where you're coming from, but you know that "groove" thing you're talking about ? Well I kind of think thats what makes it the best of the Barnes Era.

The Bleeding used to be my favorite album. I just plain got sick of it, and I hear something better in Tomb now. Butchered at Birth I prefer as well, as it's lyrics are probably the best, and the vocals sound really cool.
