Full Version: Bob Rusay's Departure
The Tomb > Beyond The Cemetery > Cannibal Corpse Discussions

Okay I just thought of something. Most sources say he left after the recorded Tomb of the Mutilated. But yet he was in their appearence in Ace Ventura. Lets look at the facts: 1.) Tomb of the Mutilated came out in Sept. 1992, 2.) Ace Ventura came out in Feb. 1994 (A month or 2 before The Bleeding came out.), and was most likely filmed in 1993. So he couldn't have left shortly after recording Tomb of the Mutilated. And it's not like he came back for the appearance, “I think he was really mad when they fired him. I don't think he would want to speak to those guys anymore.”- George Fisher. So he didn't leave after they recorded Tomb of the Mutilated after he might have (And probably) been around for most of the recording of The Bleeding. If anyone can come out with a response to my claims I would love to hear it.

I was thinking that it might be Barrett playing in Ace Ventura, be something I saw on Rusay's USGTF golf profile thing that contradicted that: "we were featured in the movie "Ace Ventura, Pet Detective." Now why would he mention the band if he weren't in the band at that point because "I think he was really mad when they fired him. I don't think he would want to speak to those guys anymore.”- George Fisher. But I also have seen (Both) Ace Ventura scenes with CC in them, and there's no sign of Bob (Just Jack & Rob). This is really confusing.

he meant we were featured in a movie - we " the band " our band - HE WAS IN THE BAND - THEY WERE FEATURED IN THE MOVIE !?!?!?!?! Rob barrett , was actually IN THE BAND AT THE TIME = SO NATURALLY HE WAS ON FILM !

there is no confusion here , bob rusay was NOT IN THE MOVIE !!!!

I would have prefered if Bob Rusay stayed until he was done with vile then they would recruit rob barret and fire jack owen and recruit pat 'o Brien. those cds would have been even better.

Mentioning Rusay, anyone seen his USGTF profile thing? Goddam! Age really kicked the shit outta him! I betcha he really fuckin hates EVERYONE in CC! And can you imagine: His son sayin "Daddy I was listening to Tomb of the Mutilated, and the booklet said that you played in it. Is that true?" He slaps his son in the face. "What did I say about listening to that crap! And no, I never played on that symphony of Satan! In fact I'm gonna call my lawyers and tell them about this!" LOL. No disrespect to Bob, he's my favorite of all of CC's guitar players, that's why I've talked about him so much on this forum. And everyone has to stop spreading those bullshit rumors about him not playing at all on any CC albums! Total bullshit! Alex Webster even said so!

No way. You're smoking crack.

Look at who wrote the songs on Vile, and then notice how many of the great songs are by Rob Barret.

Bob Rusay was the absolute worst musician in CC's ranks.....ever......period.

Straight from the horses mouth:

Alex:
"On Eaten, Bob and Jack each played all of their own rhythm guitar tracks, as far as I remember. On Butchered, Bob did some rhythm playing but Jack did a bit more. It was maybe 60% Jack, 40% Bob on that one. By the time we went in to record Tomb, it had become clear that Jack was the stronger rhythm player of the two, so after some discussion with Scott Burns we decided to have Jack play all of the rhythms on that album. This was not intended to insult Bob of course, it's a common practice for metal bands to choose one guitarist of a guitar team to do all of the rhythms to make the album sound tighter."

LOL @ what chris barnes says.
He commented that Rusay's departure from the band was "the beginning of the end," and that his contribution was "100% the most underrated contribution to that band that there ever was". Also, Barnes stated; "Butchered at Birth and all those albums, none of them, would have been like that if it wasn't for Bob's writing style."
SHUT UP AND DIE
When Chris Barnes claims that Rusay was "underrated", you soon get EVERYTHING put into perspective about not only Rusay, but good ole Barnsie himself.

Obviously Bob Rusay takes alot of shit for no good reason , He played , and co-wrote some of cannibals best work , Although hes not my favourite guitar player in c.c. , He deserves utmost respect , because without him - eaten , butchered , and tomb might sound totally different , and not as good / original had he not been involved . cool.gif

Yep, seriously, albums like Bloodthirst and Kill sound WAY more original than eaten and butchered. Eaten was basically a Slayer/Sepultura influenced death thrash album, and butchered sounded like an attempt to sound like suffocation to me.

It's all just what I think though. Besides, i think webster and owen handled most of the songwriting on these albums. And if Rusay couldnt play his own riffs that he wrote, then why did he use them? I refuse to believe he contributed to even 1/4 of the songwriting in those days.

Although I can't prove anything, I have a concert from 8/19/92 and it's amazing quality with stereo guitars. You can tell whoever is on the left, i'm guessing Bob, cannot solo very well at all, or as at least having an off night, whereas, the guitarist on the right, which I presumed is Jack, is absolutely phenomenal and sounds nearly better than on Tomb. I dread solos coming from the left side...

How the fuck can you say that now? Those albums are 18 and 17 years old so back then they would have been original. Besides this topic should be laid to rest with three coments from the last page. Read Murder Worship 666's, Shut Up And Die's and Rotting Decrepit Corpse's statements (and part fact cause the quotes are from the band themselves) if you haven't already cause all three are fucking right
