ok guys, what do you guys use to record on your computer? and im talking ghetto style, but still with the ability to layer tracks. like a base riff and then record another guitar over that track with a melodic sound. im trying to figure something out so that i can keep what i write on my computer w/o forgetting what i write. i have a bunch of programs and i dont know how to use them yet. i have cubase svt, acid and sound forge. is there a different program that i should get for basic 4 track style recording? if you know anything about this, help a nigga out!

Cakewalk is good for guitars. Haven't tried it with anything else, but it can do drums and vocals and stuff too.

acoustica and sonar... do either of them have a simple interface?

Haven't used either one of those. But I've used the guitar version on the bottom. The interface is "simple" if you're familiar with a mixing console. Theres a lot of options, more than you need really. Can't comment on the other ones.
But the nice thing about the Cakewalk one is that you can usually get it for free if you buy Digitech equipment. Like the GNX and RP series I think comes with it included.

acoustica is a pretty simple program to use... its free... if u have a downloading program you can get it for free... in computer recordings bass doesnt usually sound amazing but when u play with the volume on this... it sounds just like you play it... its easy to mix too...

not worrying about professional quality, i just want something to record my guitars to keep ideas and whatnot. i come up with so much, and i forget 90% of it... even if i think that it is genius shit, i tend to forget. and i want to have two different guitar tracks melodically going with eachother. my drummer is going to school for professional recording, and is building a studio in his house, so the professional shit can get done there. but i want something that i can just do shit on here at home. free is good. got any specific link for me to download it with, or do i need to do a torrent download?
