Since this is a Death Metal board, I was wondering if I could get some advice from you guys. Should I buy one of those Hi-Hat drop clutch thingies for use when playing Death or Black Metal?

eh it doesnt really matter, i don't use one it really doesn't make a difference for metal.

ok now listen.
do not buy a drop clutch. it's a waste of fucking money and they're all pieces of shit. if you're going to play your double pedal (which should be an Axis AAx Longboard, btw), then you fucking play your double pedal. if you need to use your hi hat, you take your left foot and play the hi hat and do crazy hi hat tricks and open and close it instead of being obnoxious and just playing it half open half closed in that sloshy way. with the invention of double pedals and use of double bass drums, n00bs who have no idea what the hell they're doing buy a double pedal right away and forget that they own a hi hat. it's now a forgotten piece of the drum set and the drumming culture's youth is taking over with their lame ass double bass skills. I MEAN LEARN TO PLAY YOUR SINGLE PEDAL BEFORE YOU FEEL THE NEED TO BLOW $200 ON SOMETHING YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE

yeah im in a band i try to play all the instruments i guess I'm pretty well rounded. we cover alot of black dahlia and lamb of god songs and yes the axis pedals are awesome... unfortunately though our drummer moved to florida so know my band is pretty much fucked until we find a drummer.

My drummer uses Iron Crobra bass pedals and pearl pedals he was thinking of getting axis double kick pedals. If you cant wait for a drummer you can always go drum machine 
you should also learn derek roddies swivel foot technique, it worked wonders for me.
