What is your favorite song on 'Butchered at Birth' ?

this is my all time favorite Death Metal record and my favorite song is Gutted.

"Meat Hook Sodomy" is the most frightening song on the album and best.Quite alot of change of rhythms.Example is at 3:37 min(slow) then speeds up at 4:39min.The bass line at 3:51 is very sad and terrifying-best bass line I ever heard. And "Under the rotted flesh" has a haunting bass line at beginning.

Heres another pointer for Meat Hook Sodomy: I love the crazy repetition that occurs from 3:23 min to 3:37 min and then the even more crazier repetition of one or two chord guitar playing from 3:38 to 4:33.And of course the excellent,scary bass line at 3:51.And I love the guitar effects at the beginning of Under The Rotted Flesh. Butchered At Birth was a break through in Death Metal and years ahead of its time.

yes i agree, i love that album, ive had it for a LONG time and i still listen to it like i just got it.

Covered with sores is cool too, it sounds pantera-ish.

i think every song on this album is the best Songs Cannibal Corpse ever made, however if i had to pick a personal favorite i would have to go with Living Dissection

for many reasons, the landscape of destruction in palm muting and violent drumming over even faster drumming that flows into this song makes it brutal as hell.

another reason is the lyrical content on this song is down right the type of thing that would make Satan himself wet himself... and not to mention it quite literaly describes Medical Necromancy performed as a hobby ^-^

i could go on and on about how awesome this song is, but then its wrapped around all the other songs are so great as well...

another side note about Butchered at Birth, if you look closly to the song structure each 3rd song speaks about some form of undead, becoming one or creating one... read the lyrics carfully to Living Dissection, Vomit the Soul, and Innards Decay,

Living dissection : how to creat zombies sergicaly
Vomit the Soul : invoking a hoard of zombies for world destruction
Innards Decay: living inside the body of another person as it decays and you become a zombie yourself.

Meat Hook Sodomy, because the song was everything I envisioned it to sound like...and it was BAD ASS!

man, this was a hard choice. after tomb, i think this is defeinately the next best album. Although george fisher is a very talented vocalist and has a higher range than barnes, barnes is much more effective in producing a much scarier and evil album with his low grunts.
i used to blast this album out in the corridor at school and everyone used to run away! anyway, meat hook sodomy wins it by a thread-maybe because they were all so good and that was the longest! First time i put it on, i thought my cd player was broken! You have to listen to the studio version rather than the live one.
The next best songs are probly rancid amputation and living dissection.

I gotta go with Meathook, and I agree with everything thats been said! My band plays Meathook and Gutted. Every song has a part that grabs me, but Meathook takes it.

Rancid Amputation, that song is just so friggin' brutal!

:20-:40 or so is just heavy and brutal, the change at 1:02 is crushing and grooves, the change at 2:00 or so...on and on the song just rocks.

i almost picked innard decay just because of the amazing breakdown at 1:38 which is awesome, but i think rancid amputation is just overall more brutal!

Butchered At Birth. Very fast and brutal, it was the first Cannibal Corpse song i heard. At the time i was just getting in to death metal and I was like want the fuck was that and shortly got in Cannibal Corpse.

I chose Gutted because the kick ass riffs in the middle of the song just hits hard with the listener, and basically I like it the most since the vocals kick ass.
