Statements made by a suspected high-level al-Qaeda official detained in Turkey for his alleged role in the 2003 bombings of two synagogues, a British bank and the British Consulate-General in Istanbul, could lead to the discovery of the Kenneth Bigley's remains. Mr. Bigley, a 62-year-old British engineer, was kidnapped in Baghdad on Sep 16, 2004. Three weeks later, a video showing the Briton's beheading was released.

According to statements made by the detainee, Loa'i Mohammed Haj Bakr al-Saqa, Bigley's beheaded body could be buried in a ditch at an entrance to the city of Fallujah, Iraq, 50 meters from an insurgent checkpoint on the road from Nuamiya village. The British Foreign Office is currently investigating the claim. An office spokesman said, "We are following up the claims, as we have pursued every possible lead whether or not the information is likely to prove accurate."

Osman Karahan, Turkish lawyer of the al-Qaeda militant, said that his client was personally involved in the kidnapping but his role in the execution isn't still clear. Al-Saqa confessed he was the chief of security and intelligence for insurgents in Fallujah and took part in decisions resulting in a number of executions. About Kenneth Bigley he said, "This person was completely an American agent. I chose this person particularly for myself and executed him. When Fallujah was under my orders around 150 people were executed."
