When I came across that thread about it being the 4 year anniversary of Layne Staley's death I kept thinking hmmm someone else died today but who. Then it hit me... Kurt Cobain. Although Kurt's body was not discovered until April 8th 1994, coroners say that his date of death was in fact April 5th. Anywho I know there probably aren't many Nirvana fans around anymore (besides me)... but if anyone here who was or still is a Nirvana fan wants to say a few words about Nirvana or Kurt please do so. IMO Kurt Cobain was a very talented artist who'se songs and memory will never be forgotten. RIP Kurt

well, was going to post this as well, but i got busy. yes... the man that influenced me to pick up a guitar died today 11 years ago. he is still a big deal around these parts, just like hendrix is still a big deal around here. he made our seattle music history all the more rich with his contributions, and is still sorely missed.

im not a huge nirvana fan but they arent bad. i agree, he was a good musician.

i like pantera... there was a point in time where far beyond driven was my favorite album... but i was thinking more along the lines STP, the screaming trees, pearl jam ... to name a few. some of the best music came from the 90's, and i thank kurt cobain for it. nobody would know about The Melvins if it wasnt for Nirvana. STP's first two discs kicked ass. Then there is one of my most favorite bands, Hum. jesus, i would rather listen to a lot of these bands than a lot of metal that is out there that people think is so great.

btw... korn, limp bizkit, dave matthiews band, offspring, tool and green day are not nirvana's fault.

Well they had the infamous '94 vigil on April 10th 1994 (I'm sure a few of you have seen footage of it on tv... in which Courtney Love plays a taped eulogy kind of message) and then on May 31st 1999 a final service (organized by Kurt's mother Wendy Cobain) was held for Kurt. And no.... Kurt was not buried he was creamated. Half of his ashes were used to make a "tsatsa" Buddhist memorial sculpture while the other half of Kurt's ashes were scattered in a river on the May 31st memorial service. The plan for the service on May 31st 1999, was that Kurt's daughter Frances Bean was to scatter half of her father's ashes in a river behind Wendy Cobain's house while a Buddhist monk recited some prayers. That's basically the big stuff that's happened to honor Kurt's death. Another thing is that a smaller vigil was held on April 5th, 2004 in Seattle's Viretta Park to mark the 10 year anniversary since Kurt's death. Also finally in conclusion there has been talk of erecting a memorial of some sort in Aberdeen Washington which was Kurt's birthplace but nothing has come of that plan yet.... oh well maybe in a few years.

I still consider Nirvana a top 5 of my all time favorite bands,I was listening to the In Utero cd the day Kurt was found dead and someone called and told me...RIP

Dime fucking OWNS the hell out of all other metal guitarists and always will. He posessed not only superior guitar skillls but also a rare pasionate intensity for music which not many people have. I remember hearing about Dime's murder on the 3AM news about 6-7 hours after his death.... I was so shocked and upset that I could not go to school the next day... I shed a few tears I admit it. I stayed in my room that day and had a private memorial for Dime which basically was just me cranking the fuck out of all of my Pantera cds starting with CFH and ending with "Reinventing the Steel". Dime was not only a guitar LEGEND.... but he was also just a really generous and remarkable person who'se spirit will shine down on all us metalheads forever IMO. And every December 8th... I am proud to say I light a candle for Dime and have a few shots of whiskey in his honor.... as the memory of Dime must be kept alive even though Dime still lives on and always will through his music.
