Yeah Warbringer fucking kills. That's pretty much all I like. All the new thrash bands just sound like they are trying too hard to me. VIO-LENCE!!
Yeah, for me, Warbringer is pretty much the stand-out, stand-alone best of the new thrashers. Skeletonwitch also cut the mustard on my plate. And also Municipal Waste, although not totally full-throttle, wholly thrash to my ears, are a terrific, hugely fun bunch of hotshots that never fail to give me lotsa enjoyment.
But Ira, you're definitely onto something when you say that the new acts sound like "they are just trying too hard". I feel the same cos a lot of the new players seem to sound far too derivative of their elder legends, and sorely lack a certain originality and distinctiveness which I find rather disappointing and dull. I guess a lot of factors influence their unoriginal, unremarkable, safety-first approach. I'd wish they'd dare to push the thrash metal envelope further down the line (or as much as is artistically and realistically possible) and strut some hot 'new' stuff of their own, much more frequently than they currently are doing.
To RDC: You're spot-on when you say that a lot of the thrash vets are delivering great new records that can keep us thrash fiends satisfied, regardless of what the spawning newbies have to offer. But mate, you can pretty much say the same thing about death metal, as well, don't you think?
I hope you're right about Sacrifice. Though, I'd not want them to "eclipse" or "devastate" the 'thrash metal community'.

Otherwise, who'd be left to listen to their cool stuff anymore?
