Small Interview W/ Alex

Gore metal godfathers Cannibal Corpse are celebrating 20 years of inarticulate bellowing, inhumanly fast drum beats and shredding guitars on Centuries Of Torment: The First 20 Years, a retrospective DVD extending to seven hours over three discs.

Revered as death metal's biggest and probably most controversial/influential act, Cannibal Corpse (guitarists Pat O'Brien and Rob Barrett, bassist Alex Webster, vocalist George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher and drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz) are renowned for such infamous and definitive albums as Butchered At Birth, Eaten Back To Life and Gallery Of Suicide.

Naturally, the Tampa, Fla. band are proud of Centuries Of Torment. It's beautifully — well, as "beautiful" as an embossed image of a zombie strapped to a chair of rotting flesh can be — packaged and features live renditions of such timeless classics as "Devoured By Vermin," "Dormant Bodies Bursting" and "Mummified In Barbed Wire." It's packed with live performances, a three-hour documentary and introspective features on everything from being banned in multiple countries to the group's shocking merchandise.

"We did work hard on both the documentary and DVD itself," Webster notes. "I know it seems long at first, but once you're watching it, you realize how hard it is to pare down 20 years of history — shows, albums, tours and everything else — into a couple of hours.

"You can only give so much attention to everything, and these great moments end up getting cut. But we're confident that what made it into the documentary will be entertaining to our fans."

While Webster is clearly stoked about Centuries Of Torment, he figures the most interesting element is that the documentary features original vocalist Chris Barnes, who resigned heatedly in 1995 due to friction with his bandmates.

"It is great that we even have Chris talking about the band in it. Most people thought we'd either skip over that or he'd want no part of it, but he was all for it. I think that because we ensured he's a part of things, fans will really appreciate the effort we put forth."

Webster is adamant that fans not see Centuries Of Torment as the group's swan song. On the contrary, he says it's a doorway between chapters in the Cannibal Corpse saga. Apparently the world still needs more songs about decapitation and mutilation.

"This DVD is more of a celebration of what we've accomplished so far as opposed to saying, 'That's all we have,'" he says. "This is by no means the end of Cannibal Corpse's prolific output.

"We're working with [Hate Eternal singer/guitarist] Erik Rutan on our next album that we hope to have out in a few months. This is a celebration of two decades of Cannibal Corpse. Hopefully the next two decades will be just as interesting."

—Keith Carman

Any one have any information about CC releasing their performance at Wacken '07 for a live album? That would be the greatest live album ever!!!

Also, any news about that CC bio DVD? I wonder if any former CC members (Jeremy Turner, Jack Owen, Chris Barnes or even.. (gasp!)... the reclusive Bob Rusay! That would be so awesome!!!!

Now Playing: Cannibal Corpse- "Covered with Sores"

H

On other sites I read that they played 13 songs on the wacken festival 2007. But then I downloaded this thing: http://darkbattm14.blogspot.com/2008/02/ca...n-open-air.html It has more than 13 songs. Did they play the songs in secret or is the video filled with songs from other concerts? Which is the right version?

greetings

Cannibal Corpse Hoping To Enter The Studio In Sept

CANNIBAL CORPSE bassist Alex Webster has issued the following update:

"My wife and I will be attending the NAMM show in Anaheim next week, so if any of you are going to the show, maybe we'll see you there. I'm not doing any signings or presentations or anything like that, but I will be there as a guest of Spector basses. I'll also be dropping by the Modulus, DR Strings, and Ampeg booths, so you might see me somewhere around there too.

"Also, in case you didn't see the announcement on HATE ETERNAL's site last month, I won't be playing bass on their upcoming tours. Although it would have been a lot of fun, we all knew from the beginning that I'd probably just do the studio session, and that's the way things turned out. It just seemed like there would be some serious schedule conflicts, so they decided to look for a bassist who could be fully dedicated to touring with them this year. Those guys are beginning a tour next week, so be sure to catch them if they come through your area. Also, their new album, 'Fury and Flames', will be released on February 20th, so check it out. It's a truly savage album, and I'm proud they let me be a part of it.

"In CANNIBAL news, we have started writing, and things are coming along well. We are hoping to enter the studio in September of this year, so that would mean our next album will be released sometime in 2009.

"As for BLOTTED SCIENCE [the instrumental extreme metal triumvirate featuring guitarist Ron Jarzombek (WATCHTOWER, SPASTIC INK, MARTY FRIEDMAN), Webster, and drummer Charlie Zeleny (BEHOLD...THE ARCTOPUS, JORDAN RUDESS)], we have been enjoying a very positive response to the release of our debut album, 'The Machinations of Dementia', and I'd like to say thank you to everybody out there who has bought the album or supported us in any way. A lot of people have been asking when and if we'll play live, and I still don't know the answer to that. If we ever did plan something it would be posted on BLOTTED's MySpace page, so check there for updates."

Alex Webster Issues Latin American Tour Update

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermo...ewsitemID=79387

CANNIBAL CORPSE bassist Alex Webster has issued the following update:

"[I] ust wanted to update you all on how the tour is going. We have had another major dissapointment, and that is that the concert in Venezuela was cancelled by the local authorities mere hours before we were to begin. This is an enormous disappointment for us, as all of the fans were already there, and many of them had traveled a great distance to get there. We are so frustrated, because there is no question this would have been an incredble concert. The venue was great, the equipment was great, all of the organization done by the local promoter seemed really well done. The audience outside of the concert seemed really excited about the show, and so were we. Unfortunately, the local government decided to shut the show down, and despite the best efforts of all envolved the show was cancelled. We are so sorry to all of the fans who came to see us play, you are no doubt the only people who are more dissapointed and frustrated than we are.

"In other tour news, we have learned a little more about the situation in Colombia. Apparently, a short announcement was made by a member of the local promoter's crew shortly after I made my announcement. I and the other guys did not hear this announcement as we were busy with our gear or greeting the fans, but while Paul was working on his drums he said he saw a man hiding behind the amplifiers talking into a microphone. From what we understand this man blamed the show stoppage on my illness, which as we have stated before is completely untrue. This dishonest announcement helps explain a great deal about why the audience was so angry. The guy who made the announcement was no doubt part of the same group of people that had just told us to stop playing because the police were shutting the show down. We are completely disgusted that this kind of misleading bullshit took place. We also have heard that the local promoter is saying similiar misleading statements on his website. We have never been put in a worse position by a promoter in the history of our band and we are furious about it. We also want to repeat that we are very sorry to our fans in Colombia for this early stoppage of the concert, we are so unhappy about all of this.

"OK, now that new have the bad news out of the way, I'd like to say a big thank you to all of the fans who came to the shows in El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Ecuador. Those shows went very well, and the audience response was just incredible. These shows have really helped lift our spirits during a tour that has had more than its fair share of problems.

"Also, just to let my friends know, I'm feeling fine now, and thank you so much for the support."
