i agree. In his early days, sepultura and MAX were THE thrash band. morbid visions to beneath the remains was faster, tighter and catchier than any band out there. Sepultura will always be my favourite thrash band out there. Schizophrenia is fuckin great but beneath the remains is a MASTERPIECE...enough said.
Vile Suffering
old sepultura makes me happy.

sepultura with max ruled. i dont think that its better than slayer by any means though.
you-think-you-know-me
I agree, as much as Sepultura is completely badass, I dont think I'd ever say any band was better then Slayer. But Sepultura pump out some classics, dont really like their new singer. But definitely with Max they were kings of metal.
Eray
old SEPULTURA is good
Maggot Corpse
Old Sepultura is way Heavier then old Slayer.
But if u compare both bands latest albums Slayer takes the belt.

In top-flight thrash, Sepultura were briefly, but definitely a major league, heavy-hitting legend, no question. However, as in the case of at least a dozen other good-to-great metal bands that I can think of, I can't avoid pasting the prefix 'early-' to describe the only period of the band's career which has had any impact on me. I mean, Sepultura thrashed and reigned for only their first four studio records and then went bizarrely off course, in my eyes, at any rate. My favourite from then is 'Arise', then a close second being 'Beneath the Remains', 'Schizoprenia' took me a while to fully appreciate and 'Chaos A.D' was a great, yet so under-rated album.

Another thing that both bothers and amuses me in equal measure, is how so many fans and online reviewers, even professional writers, label Sepultura as 'death metal'. I absolutely disagree. I won't deny that both Sepultura and Slayer have had records and songs that have had the stylistic impressions and vibes of elements that later would have a massive influence on the stuff that early death metal bands would play. But I reckon both the bands would be the first ones to protest if called death metal by their fans. Sepultura (and Slayer) were Thrash, no matter what lazy, confused, delusional fans and critics would have us believe.

Did any of you guys follow Max into Soulfly? I did, out of sheer curiosity and left fast enough, turned off, big-time with that crap of a solo adventure.

No. I was genuinely pissed off when he left. I hated the fact that my favourite band was no longer together. Especially seeing as the lyrics on the most recent album they'd done (Roots - in particular "Born Stubborn") focussed on how tight they were as a group and that they would never break up etc. They should've recorded one or two more albums. And toured Australia again. BLAH.

I myself had the luxury of seeing these boys in action , on the arise , and chaos tour , And they put on one hell of a show back then . When they split , i lost interest in the whole thing , cause when groups change members especially singers , I lose interest big time .

But , i heard some soulfly recently - i think it was the most recent album , and it kicks major ass , sounds like old sepultura - fast & furious . I still have no interest in seeing them live though . Not now .

the record.................good, a progression from BD and MV.....

They progressed even further with the next two......some of the best thrash around if ya ask me...

Chaos>>>>>gd but, strove to far away from what they were known for like rob said ''fast and furious'' THRASH!!!

Not de-tuned groove riffs.....refuse/resist is one of their best tho....
