11. Once Upon the Cross - Deicide

( Lyrics, Review, Official Site, Forums )
Once Upon the Cross

This album marks another chapter for Deicide. The album is a little bit more technical but the band still retains all of the basic element that make them such an unstoppable force. So this is basically another opus of straight forward, evil, satanic, haunting, hellish, blasphemous, pulverizing, hellfire and brimstone, heavy, brutal death metal assult officially approved by the sinister majesties of Hell. Essential to the collection of every death metalhead.

12. The Wretched Spawn - Cannibal Corpse

( Lyrics, Review, Forums, Official Site )
The Wretched Spawn
One of the marks of a good band is songwriting. If you look at Cannibal Corpse's song writing from Eaten Back to Life to the present day, you notice significant advancement in musical composition. When Cannibal Corpse started with Eaten Back to Life, they sounded more like heavy death thrash...but this is a jaw dropping promotion to hellish, brutal, and technical death metal compared to the primitive and gruesome debut album. Instead of setting themselves into a comfort zone, they push harder and harder with each album, which shows in The Wretched Spawn when compared to their previous release - Gore Obsessed. Not only does this package come with the feral and fierce Wretched Spawn album, it also comes with a bonus DVD which contains footage of the making of the album. Read More...

13. Scream Bloody Gore - Death

( Lyrics, Review )
Scream Bloody Gore

What can I say? Death is the epitome of the death metal genre. You would think their first album sounds sloppy and messed up, right? Well first off; this is Death's rawest album out of all of their albums. Their first full-length album is fucking killer. In my opinion, I think all death metal bands should have the production of this album. It has to sound have that rough and raw sound. Read More...

14. Covenant - Morbid Angel

( Lyrics, Review, Official Site )
Covenant

With this album, it is another new direction for the band. They are on Giant Records and the band line-up consists of only David Vincent, Trey Azagthoth and Pete Sandoval. The road of progression continues from the band. Not to worry because all of the basic elements of the band are all retained along with creativity, dynamics and musicianship but the material hits the listener in the heart, at least to some extent because of the atmosphere. So this is the third major milestone in the dark craft of Morbid Angel. So get the album and be a part of the covenant.

16. Human - Death

( Lyrics, Review )
Human

Sean Reinert and Steve Digiorgio made this album stand out, and set a standard for all other Death albums to come. Reinert is dripping with Jazz influenced assaults, and really showcase the importance of diverse drumming in what can become a stale genre... He's exploding from the first track "Flattening Of Emotions," with thundering kicks, unique cymbal flares, limb independance only the theory-taugh know, and in complete control of all the chaos. Just amazing to hear this drumming accompanied by Chucks killer riffs and vocals. Chuck knew how good his music could really be, and made the best choice by selecting Reinert.

20. Slaughter Of The Soul - At The Gates

( Lyrics, Review )
Slaughter Of The Soul
Innovators of the Gothenburg death metal movement in Sweden, At the Gates’ final album ‘Slaughter of the Soul’ is a rebellious anthem filled with psychological torments, suicidal tendencies, and exploratory selfless music. Encompassing more of a thrash metal style, At the Gates coupled the technical, speed-driven style of bands like Slayer and Testament and vamped the style with slower, progressive melodies (and an almost video game-esque instrumental, ‘The Flames of the End’) seen today by bands like Arch Enemy and the Black Dahlia Murder.

Despite the album’s simplistic approach and straightforward nature, this is perhaps the attractive death metal album to date. It holds a mainstream tempo and flavor that many can attest is undeniably catchy, and Tomas Lindberg’s hoarse screams are powerful, to say the least. While others will be left wanting more after listening to this album (as the music is redundant here and there), others will contemplate the album’s intellectual concepts and captivating mental debates.
