When the Swedish death metal band Entombed took the name of their 1990 release "Left Hand Path" straight from the pages of Anton LeVay's Satanic bible, one could expect that it would be just another bunch of Corpsepainted freaks with mindless lyrics and boring Black Metal "Atmosphere". You could expect that, but you'd be wrong because there is no black metal faggotry on this record. Instead what you get is sludge-doom style death metal at its finest, because this album is as heavy as Black Sabbath's "Master Of Reality" entombed beneath a ton of molten lead. Deicide: Scars Of The Crucifix - With this album, it's the return to fold of Deicide. When a die-hard Deicide fan listens to this album for the first time, they will hear Deicide that way they were in their former glory. The music is pretty much a mix of Legion, Once Upon The Cross and Serpents Of The Light. This is very evident throughout the album. For exemple, lets take Go Now Your Lord Is Dead. At the end of the last chorus, the songs going in to that evil, doomsday-like sound with a solo attack almost like with the ending of Behead The Prophet (No Lord Shell Live) from Legion. Evidences like these are found throughout the album. The lyrics are pretty much a mix of the old "Satan, Satan, Satan" thing and subjects dealing with the corruption of Christainity and religion. Much more like Once Upon The Cross. All and all, it is an album for the true Deicide die-hards and as well as an album that reconciles with fans that the band lost because Insinerehym and In Torment In Hell.
With this album, it is another direction for the band. Musically, the band still delievers the evil goods and a whole more. All of the basical elements that make the band what they are as an important death metal force are all retained along with some trips to new territories. That can be felt throughout the album. Lyrically, the band still maintains their satanic stance but the lyrics tend to deal more with the corruption of Chrstainity and religion as well as other serious issues rather than the typical "Satan, Satan, Satan" and supernatural contents of the past. The band doesn't let down at all through. They're only progressing in their dark craft.
Monstrosity: Imperial Doom - This is one of the
best classic albums of the early 90's storm of death
metal and it is a classic one indeed. The best way to
describe is just all-out, heavy, assaulting,
devastating, annihilating, and brutal death metal from
Florida. This album is also special because it has the
vocal assaults of George "Corpsegringer" Fisher who is
now in Cannibal Corpse. So this is basically an album
destined to cremate the listener. So get it and get
cremated.
